About the Photographer

Alyn Brereton is a trained primatologist, archaeologist, educator, and professional photographer with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). His academic interests focus on the behavior of monkeys and great apes. For his PhD at the University of Stirling in Scotland, he conducted field research on stump-tailed macaques on Tanaxpillo Island in Laguna Catemaco, near the town of Catemaco in Veracruz, Mexico.

Before transitioning to a second career in education, Brereton worked for many years as an archaeologist in California and Nevada, and as an ethnoarchaeologist along the Bering Sea in Alaska. This diverse background informs his teaching of International Baccalaureate anthropology and psychology at the high school level, where he brings a broad, interdisciplinary perspective to the classroom.

Artistically, Alyn Brereton is passionate about fine art photography and the cowboy way of life—an environment in which he was raised. His photography, particularly in the rodeo world, seeks to capture the spirit and authenticity of Western traditions. He currently resides in Modesto, California.
