Cristina Embil

About the Photographer

Based in Oviedo, northern Spain, Cristina Embil is a Spanish street and documentary photographer whose work explores the energy of urban life and the social realities that shape it. After dedicating many years to other professional pursuits, she returned to photography, combining her visual practice with a background in philosophy and experience working at the European Parliament. She currently works for a trade union.

Driven by curiosity, Cristina Embil is interested in the small details of everyday life as well as the cultural and social connections between different countries. Her photographs embrace spontaneity and layered compositions, inviting questions rather than offering definitive answers. She is particularly drawn to documenting cities in transition, exploring how urban change affects both the environment and the people who inhabit it.

Her work has received awards and been exhibited internationally, including the Annual Women Street Photographers Exhibition, Streetfoto San Francisco, the Brussels Street Photography Festival, the Urban Photo Awards, the Earth Photo Exhibition in London, the Chromatic Awards, and the Street Photographers Foundation. Her photographs have also been published in specialized photography magazines in Italy, the United States, and Canada.
