About the Photographer
David Read began his career as a cinematographer at the National Coal Board Film Unit, one of the last major industrial film units. He later progressed through the film and television industry, working on feature films such as Brazil, Dance with a Stranger, Champions, and Another Country, as well as television programmes including World in Action, Equinox, Watchdog, and The Money Programme, among many others.
He went on to photograph feature films including the cult horror Revenge of Billy the Kid, Room 36, Desperate Measures, and Respectable: The Mary Millington Story, and worked on television productions such as The Bill and Family Affairs.
After retiring from film work, David Read turned his focus to still photography, drawing on decades of experience in visual storytelling to create striking and original images rooted in narrative and cinematic sensibility.
