About the Photographer
J. Michael Skaggs is an award-winning photographer, author, and educator whose work has been widely published and exhibited across the United States. His photography has appeared in The State of America, Black & White Magazine, B&W+Color Magazine, Licking River Review, True NKU, and RoHoPress.com, among others.
He is the author of Americans Revisited Vol. I (Edgecliff Press, 2008) and has contributed photography to several published works, including What Pain Does (Dos Madres Press, 2018), Little Girl Gray (Dos Madres Press, 2020), Critical Race Theory; Still Dreamin’ 1993–2023 Retrospective (RoHoPress.com, 2024), and Could I Be President? (RoHoPress.com, 2025). His exhibitions span numerous states, including New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Kentucky, Vermont, Indiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Kansas.
J. Michael Skaggs holds an M.A. in Speech Communication from Montclair State University and a B.A. in Media Arts and Sociology from Jersey City State College. He taught courses in public speaking, communication studies, media, and photojournalism at Northern Kentucky University from 2000 until his retirement in 2023, and continues to teach there as an adjunct instructor.
