About the Photographer
Based in Houston, Texas, and originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Kirk Hawkins is a photographer and graphic designer whose work has been shaped by more than two decades living and working in Asia, particularly in China.
His photography focuses on aging urban neighborhoods, documenting places that are gradually disappearing under rapid development. Through quiet details, weathered surfaces, worn facades, and traces of everyday life, Kirk Hawkins records the character of these environments before they vanish.
Informed by his background in graphic design, his work emphasizes structure, clarity, and visual restraint, combining observation with a careful sense of preservation.
