About the Photographer
Natalya Sergeeva is a multidisciplinary photographer based in Novosibirsk, Russia, whose practice explores how photography can move beyond its documentary function. After building a ten-year career in interior design, she decided in 2023 to pursue photography full-time, studying composition, light, contemporary art, and the history of painting.
Her work begins with carefully composed photographs that are later transformed through digital and manual processes. Using flat light, defined contours, distorted forms, color, and contrast, Natalya Sergeeva creates images that question realism and open space for multiple interpretations. Her themes draw on personal experience, including memories of a post-Soviet childhood, human relationships, desires, internal contradictions, and the boundaries between people, nature, and the inner world.
Sergeeva has been recognized as a LensCulture Editor’s Choice in the Art Photography Awards, Portrait Awards 2026, and Critics’ Choice 2026. She was also a finalist in the Women Photographers and Light and Color competitions, and her work has been exhibited in Novosibirsk, including the group exhibition Bureau of Parallel Worlds and the Russian Photo Expo.
