Grid Photo Gallery announces its 2026 open call, Animals, inviting photographers worldwide to submit individual works that engage with animal life in its many forms. The call is open to all photographic approaches, including wildlife, documentary, portraiture, fine art, conceptual, studio, and experimental photography. Animals may appear in natural environments, domestic spaces, urban settings, controlled compositions, or symbolic contexts. What matters is the strength of the photographic work and the role the animal presence plays within the image.
Animals have long occupied a complex place in photography: familiar and unknowable, close to human life yet never fully contained by human interpretation. They may appear as companions, inhabitants, performers, survivors, or independent beings moving through spaces shaped by nature, culture, and human activity. This edition invites images that consider animals not only as subjects of observation, but as presences that alter the meaning, rhythm, and atmosphere of the photograph.
For Animals, 2026, Grid Photo Gallery is interested in work that demonstrates visual clarity, sensitivity of approach, and a strong awareness of form. The theme allows for a wide range of interpretations, from precise studies of behaviour and habitat to staged compositions, quiet domestic scenes, or images that explore the symbolic weight animals carry across cultures. The selection will not privilege one genre or method over another; it will focus on photographs that hold attention through composition, intention, and photographic intelligence.
Selected works will be presented in a curated global online exhibition, accessible worldwide, bringing together diverse ways of seeing and representing animal life today. Photographers are invited to submit images that approach the theme with care, curiosity, and distinction, contributing to a thoughtful visual conversation on the presence of animals within contemporary photography.
